Abstract

This research is a quantitative study that aims to determine the relationship between
perceptions of parental expectations and independence with career decision making in class XI
students at SMA Muhammadiyah 12 Jakarta. The sampling technique uses incidental sampling. The
research sample was 117 female and male grade XI students aged 16-18 years. The data analysis
method uses Bivariate Correlation with the SPSS 22.0 program for windows. Data analysis using
the Bivariate Correlation method between perceptions of parental expectations and career decision
making resulted in a value of R = 0.442 p = 0.000 and the relationship between independence and
career decision making was R = 0.463 p = 0.000. It can be said that there is a significant positive
relationship between perceptions of parental expectations and career decision making and there is
also a significant positive relationship between independence and career decision making.
Furthermore, the results of data analysis tests using Multivariate Correlation to measure the
relationship between perceptions of parental expectations and independence with career decision
making obtained a value of R = 0.565, R square of 0.320 and p = 0.000 (p <0.05). This shows that
there is a relationship between perceptions of parental expectations and independence with career
decision making in class XI students at SMA Muhammadiyah 12 Jakarta.
