Abstract

Graptophyllum pictum, also known as ‘daun ungu’ is a native Indonesian plant from famili
Acanthaceae that has various benefits, including its role as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory
agent. Graptophyllum pictum contains several compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and saponins.
This literature review aims to determine the presence of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities
in purple leaves (Graptophyllum pictum) both in vitro and in vivo. The method used in this research
is a literature review based on previous research articles obtained through online database that meet
inclusion criteria. The results indicate that the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities in purple
leaves (Graptophyllum pictum) vary depending on the testing method, solvent type, extraction
method, and can be confirmed by therapeutic effects produced.
