Abstract

The objectives of this research are to represent forgiveness from the perspective of individuals who
have experienced trauma, particularly in the field of psychology, and to delve deeper into the
meaning of forgiveness and how individuals undergo the process step by step, transforming
negative impacts into positive outcomes. Traumatic experiences in someone's life often mark dark
chapters in their personal history. Psychological wounds can sometimes feel painfully raw
when they are brought back to mind. However, practicing forgiveness offers significant
opportunities for achieving well-being and tranquility in life. Forgiveness involves letting go of the
pain one has experienced. It is aimed at healing oneself and giving the person who caused the pain
a chance to rebuild a healthier and happier relationship. Conversely, not forgiving can lead to
prolonged anger, hatred, resentment, and even physical and mental health issues. This
qualitative study, using a phenomenological approach, explores the essence of forgiveness as a
means to foster happiness in life.
